Units of study
At the grade 9 level, students complete a variety of projects using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.
Non-Representation Art
Students learn the Elements and Principles of Design as well as the basics of abstraction and colour theory by completing a self-portrait using only abstract, non-representational elements.
Native Art
Students explore Native Art, particularly the Woodland style, by writing and illustrating their own legend.
Realism
Student explore realism and value modelling techniques by creating a detailed vector drawing.
Photo Manipulation
Students explore the powers of photo manipulation through a series of exercises and projects such as creating a hybrid creature and altering a famous work of art to make it modern.
Graphic Design
Student explore graphic design by designing and creating their own buttons.
Perspective
Students learn the techniques of linear perspective by creating architectural drawings that combine the powers of both Illustrator and Photoshop.
Final Evaluation
As part of their summative evaluation, students prepare a selection of their work for our bi-annual Arts Showcase and construct a reflective portfolio of their best work.
